Actress Halle Berry has opened up about the emotional adjustment that came with sending her 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, off to college in another state, admitting that watching her eldest child leave home was a "little scary."
Berry, 60, reflected on the mix of pride and apprehension she experienced as Nahla embarked on her next chapter away from the family home, telling People that the milestone forced her to confront the reality that her daughter is now navigating life on her own.
“She’s the first to go and she’s my baby girl. I felt proud of her, but there’s a little fear. She’s in the world now all by herself," Berry said of Nahla, whom she shares with her former partner, Gabriel Aubry.
“She went to another state, and I just hope that she makes the right decisions and that her dad and I hope we raised her up right and that she’ll make the most of her experience," she added.
The Hollywood A-lister admitted that it has taken some time to adjust to Nahla no longer being under the same roof—although the teenager's departure has come with a few perks for her younger brother, Maceo-Robert, whom Berry shares with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.

“There are perks that come with that. They no longer have to compromise. We don’t have to agree on dinner anymore. He gets to decide these kinds of things for himself," she explained.
Still, Berry insisted that her son misses having his older sister around, noting that the family home simply feels "off" without Nahla there.
Nahla graduated from high school in June, a major milestone that brought Berry and Aubry together more than 16 years after the former couple ended their relationship.
Berry previously spoke about preparing to send her daughter off into the world while serving as a guest host on "Today with Jenna & Friends," revealing that she was approaching the transition with excitement rather than sadness.
“I’m not one of these moms that feels like, ‘Oh, she’s leaving.’ Yes, will I worry? Of course, but am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she’s gonna be? Absolutely. I’m dying to see who she’s gonna be and what she’s gonna do and what she’ll discover," she said.
And Nahla is leaving behind quite the family home. Berry owns a three-bedroom, five-bathroom property spanning 5,083 square feet and boasting an impressive 60 feet of waterfront.

The entry foyer leads to an open living area with a fireplace and a massive balcony with glass rail guards.
The chef's kitchen is equipped with stainless-steel appliances and countertops, open shelving, and warm wood cabinets. There’s also bar seating and a dining area with built-in benches.
On the lower level, there are three spacious bedrooms with private balconies and bathrooms.
The primary suite includes a sitting area with a fireplace, textured walls, a wall of windows, and a walk-in closet. Its spa bathroom has marble and limestone counters and a tub.
The loft area includes built-in closets, cabinets, and a fireplace. The balcony in this space connects to a stairway to the rooftop, which has space for a sofa, chairs, and a dining table.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Berry lived in the property while she was filming "Catwoman" in 2004, the same year she purchased the home for $8.5 million.
In 2023, Berry listed the property for $18 million, but took it off the market four months later. She still calls the pad home.
Now, with Nahla beginning her life in another state, Berry is adjusting to a new dynamic inside her own homes—one that comes with fewer compromises for Maceo, but a noticeable absence for the entire family.
