US Sanctions Are Stifling Cuban Economic Reform Efforts, Minister Says

Cuba Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Fernández De Cossío says sanctions are hobbling the island’s efforts to overhaul its economy and embrace capitalist reforms. He also acknowledges that people in Cuba are hoping political change in Washington might ease pressure on the island. Speaking with David Gura, De Cossío says, “if the US eases the amount of pressure, then those transformations in Cuba can go a long way and become truly irreversible, which is our aim and in theory is what the US wants to happen.” (Source: Bloomberg)
