Sydney Sweeney Jets Back to Her Hometown of Spokane With Boyfriend Scooter Braun To Give Aid to Wildfire Victims

Sweeney, who was born and raised in Spokane, jetted back to the Washington city to hand out food to victims of the wildfires.

Actress Sydney Sweeney and her music mogul boyfriend, Scooter Braun, have been spotted in the "Euphoria" star's hometown of Spokane handing out free meals to victims of the recent wildfires—after jetting into the Washington locale to assist with recovery efforts in the wake of the blazes.

Sweeney, 28, voiced her heartbreak over the devastating fires in an Instagram Stories post on Aug. 4, hours before she and Braun, 45, were seen working together at the Women and Children’s Free Restaurant and Community Kitchen.

Photos and videos taken of the actress showed her wearing a pair of denim overalls, a white tank top, and some sunglasses while passing out pink bags of food to waiting vehicles.

The wildfires that broke out in Spokane County over the weekend destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses, and more than 67,000 people were evacuated from their residences.

According to Fox13 Seattle, the three largest fires—the Old Trails Fire, the Autumn Lane Fire, and the Fairview Fire—have thus far burned more than 10,000 acres, decimating 700 structures.

CNN reports that this year's wildfire season in Oregon and Washington is the "worst fire season in more than three years."

In her Instagram Stories post, Sweeney spoke out about her very sentimental connection to Spokane and its residents, noting that she still considers the town her home, despite moving hundreds of miles away to pursue her acting career.

“Spokane has always been home to me. It’s where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where so many of the people and places that shaped me are,” she said.

“The devastating fires have changed countless lives in ways that are hard to put into words. Thousands of families have lost their homes, their belongings, and places of business, including members of my own family. This devastation is something our community has never experienced on this scale," Sweeney added.

The actress went on to note that, because Spokane is a smaller city than places like Los Angeles, it is all the more important to raise awareness about the impact of the fires—because the locale does not often receive the same amount of attention as other places.

"Unlike larger cities that often receive an overwhelming amount of national attention and resources, Spokane doesn’t have the same spotlight," she explained.

"If you’re looking for ways to help, these are four organizations I’m supporting that are on the ground right now helping this community that needs us.”

At the end of her post, she noted that she has put together a fundraiser to help victims of the fires, before thanking her followers for "standing with" the people of Spokane.

“I’ve put together this fundraiser to support these organizations doing the real work on the ground. Every donation, no matter the size, will help support those affected as they begin the long road to rebuilding," she continued.

"Thank you for standing with my hometown during one of its most difficult moments. Love, Syd."

The actress then shared a post by Baby2Baby, which helps provide support to children in need.

According to TMZ, the actress has also teamed up with fashion label American Eagle to raise money for wildfire victims. Sweeney has been a spokesperson for the brand since July 2025, and customers will now be able to donate directly to relief efforts when they check out in a store.

Sweeney has previously gushed about her hometown—revealing the financial sacrifices that her parents made to support her dream of becoming an actress.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar Australia in 2023, she explained that she first approached her mom and dad about pursuing acting as a career when she was just 11, putting together a PowerPoint presentation detailing her five-year business plan for how to achieve success in the industry.

Having convinced them that she was destined for stardom, Sweeney began driving back and forth between L.A. and Spokane every time she had to audition, an arduous routine that eventually led her parents to get a second home in the California city.

But the financial toll of paying for two homes became too much and, in the end, her parents relocated the family to Los Angeles so she could continue acting.

“It’s very difficult coming from a small town and a lower-middle-class family, affording two places at the same time," she said.

"Then the [financial] crash happened, and my dad lost his job, and we lost our home [in Spokane]. My parents just made the decision, ‘Let’s just stay in L.A. We don’t have anything holding us back home anymore.'"

However, while the actress is now firmly rooted in Los Angeles, she has maintained her ties to Spokane, even returning to the town to speak at a local middle school in 2020, when she shared one of her favorite things about going home.

"I like coming to Spokane because it’s just my family, and no one is really like, ‘Oh my god, it’s Sydney,'" she told The Spokesman Review. "I can wear sweats and sweatshirts all the time."
