The biggest names in sports share a glimpse inside their homes, showcasing the spaces where they kick back and relax.
From the ultraprivate Ohio mansion Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce shares with wife Taylor Swift to the sprawling Texas estate gymnast Simone Biles recently offloaded, professional athletes boast some of the most impressive real estate portfolios.
A handful of talented sports stars recently opened their doors to the world, sharing a look into their luxurious homes in a video with Architectural Digest.
The properties are just as breathtaking as one might imagine, with palatial kitchens, comfortable great rooms, and garages filled with collectible automobiles.
But a variety of playful surprises were also uncovered, revealing the interesting ways these athletes kick back and relax when they have down time.
Think: bedrooms optimized for the most restful night of sleep possible, living spaces designed to keep an entire NBA team entertained, and trophy rooms where only first-place awards matter.
Serena Williams’ waterfront oasis
Tennis icon Serena Williams opened the doors of her Jupiter, FL, residence. (Architectural Digest) With a Forbes-estimated net worth of $350 million, tennis icon Serena Williams, 46, has snapped up her fair share of properties in Florida, California, and New York City.
The 14-time Wimbledon winner has placed roots 90 minutes outside of Miami, where she primarily resides in a riverfront estate with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, 43, and their two daughters, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., 9, and Adira River Ohanian, 3.
The six-bedroom, eight-bathroom Mediterranean mansion is located in a “premium” enclave in Jupiter, and is featured in the video.
“I’ve been designing this house for a really, really long time,” she shared in the clip. “I actually worked with my sister, Venus, she has an interior design company called V Starr interiors, and it’s really cool because she loves doing it and she has some amazing people that work with her that were able to kind of get inside my brain and pick my brain and show you my vision.”
Immediately upon entering the home, guests are greeted by an art gallery that Serena chose in place of a more traditional formal living room.

The abode features a dedicated trophy room, where the star joked that second place trophies had no place. (Architectural Digest) “Most homes actually have a formal living room and I didn’t want to lose that aspect, but I also didn’t want a formal living room, and I was just trying to decide, ‘What do I do?’” she explained.
The curation features a range of pieces, including a larger-than-life Radcliffe Bailey creation that has “a rock from the moon” located directly in the entrance of the home.
While Serena explained that the gallery is “actually not close to being done,” as she feels “galleries are always a work in progress,” she did point out that she created some of the displayed pieces herself.
She also has “a little bit of a library” and a clear piano in the room, which she acquired for her daughters to play.
The art gallery isn’t the only unusual room in Serena’s abode. There’s also a trophy room lined with the prizes Serena has earned over her career, although it’s not a comprehensive collection.

A “super functional” dedicated space for fun is an “all-in-one” spot to blow off steam, which features a karaoke stage, a bar, and a place to enjoy movies.
In addition to the more polished rooms in the home, there are areas that are much more lived in, including Serena’s office and the family’s bustling kitchen.
“My office is always extremely messy,” she remarked, noting that although the room—which is adorned with oversized prints of her most iconic magazine covers—is a “fantastic” space, she “probably should have made a bigger office.”
The kitchen was off-limits to cameras that day, as Serena’s daughter was hanging out there, but past Architectural Digest coverage of the home showcased the interesting trapezoidal table that centers the bright, tropical modern room.
Devin Booker’s inviting Arizona hangout
Devin Booker's Arizona dwelling is a modern mansion designed with entertaining in mind. (Architectural Digest) Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker seems to be drawn to modern architecture.
The 29-year-old basketball player purchased a sleek Arizona mansion for $3.25 million in 2017, and sold it for $4.1 million in 2020. In 2019, his real estate agent brother, Davon Wade, helped him score another—the expansive $3.2 million Paradise Valley abode depicted in the video compilation.
“It’s architecturally a modern house, and I didn’t want to just throw modern furniture in here,” Booker shared of his interior design preferences. “I wanted it to feel collected, feel like pieces came together, some materials came together, so when I get home, I like to just lounge, lay down, and just kick it.”
Entertaining is important to Booker, who curated the space with his friends and family in mind.
The peaceful retreat offers a natural connection to its beautiful desert surroundings, with oversized windows and a living room that opens directly to the courtyard-style pool area.
A Michigan native, the NBA player noted that his fireplaces get plenty of use, even in sunny Arizona. (Architectural Digest)

While Booker leaves the cooking to his personal chef, he appreciates the kitchen as a great place to gather with teammates. (Architectural Digest) A polished-yet-approachable great room makes a pointed first impression, with a statement-making coffee table Booker claims was a hassle to get into the home.
The living room was decorated to inspire camaraderie. A custom poker table and enormous sectional couch are frequently used when Booker hosts his teammates, and a well-stocked bar nearby was a strategic choice.
“That’s my trick. I give my teammates a couple drinks and get them going and give them some confidence,” he quipped. “A lot of tequila in here.”
Although Booker admitted he doesn’t do “too much” cooking, as he has a personal chef, his kitchen has become a place to “talk and chill” with his teammates. Two islands leave plenty of room for gathering, with a lounge space just steps away.
The formal living room is a “beautiful hint” to Booker’s personal taste, boasting midcentury furniture and an elegant wine cellar.

He also collects vintage cars, a habit he picked up from his grandfather. (Architectural Digest) Booker’s space has matured as he has, with the gaming room undergoing a transformation to become a stunning office space. The room was designed around a vintage Italian leather couch and includes a uniquely shaped desk and a variety of textures to evoke a warm atmosphere.
That said, there is a detached game house that was once a full guesthouse until Booker “blew it all up,” outfitting it with a pool table, cozy furniture, and countless jars of candy.
The bedroom is a destination to “rest and ease up a little bit,” and features a massive custom-made bed and picturesque views of the pool and landscape.
Booker’s closet is filled to the brim with a seemingly endless collection of sneakers, which he likens to art, and is not the only item he likes to collect. The garage includes an assemblage of classic cars, which “look good sitting” even if they don’t spend much time on the road.
It’s a family tradition for the Michigan native, whose grandfather was also an avid car enthusiast. The home's fireplaces are also another callback to his early days.
“Fireplaces get used more than you would think in Arizona,” Booker shared, adding that “winters get cold” and he “grew up around a fire.”
Justin Verlander and Kate Upton’s colorful New York penthouse
Kate Upton and retired pitcher Justin Verlander's New York City penthouse is a secondary home bursting with color. (Architectural Digest) Model Kate Upton, 34, and retired pitcher Justin Verlander, 43, purchased a lavish penthouse on the Upper East Side in 2023, and while the final sale price is unclear, the dwelling was last listed for $16.75 million.
The Manhattan abode is a secondary residence to their Jupiter, FL, estate along the Loxahatchee River.
The stunning residence is doused in color, and the couple has taken steps to make the home feel like a world of its own. Upon entering the abode, guests are encouraged to remove their shoes to leave the busy city streets at the door, discreetly tucking footwear into a piece of functional entrance furniture.
In the video, Verlander lovingly refers to the home as “Kate’s place” while the two fawn over a piece of “female energy” art sourced from a flea market, although the actress joked that he’s “allowed” there, too.
As Upton worked with interior designer John Ruggiero to call the shots design-wise, they refer to the pink property as her “shenthouse,” a more luxurious take on the “she shed” trend. She explained that the color palette was inspired by golden hour lighting, which can often be caught through the windows that provide views of Central Park.

The floral wallpaper is the "star" of the green kitchen. (Architectural Digest) “We really wanted to have fun and have a lot of color,” Kate said of the home. “We’re still so young, and I feel like working with some designers, they want to make us very serious, and I think in this space, it really shows we’re here to have fun.”
Upton and Verlander, who married in 2017, enjoy hosting guests for drinks before heading out for dinner.
“If it feels like you’d have a cocktail in here, that was the intent,” Upton said.
The penthouse includes an Old Hollywood-inspired screening room with an art deco ceiling where the parents of two watch lots of kids movies with their children, Genevieve Upton Verlander, 7, and Bellamy Brooks Verlander, 1.
There are also lots of thoughtfully chosen pieces of art that add to the eccentric vibe.
Upton remarked she "never knew" just how important sleep was before marrying a professional athlete. (Architectural Digest)
The couple's 7-year-old daughter proudly weighed in on the design of her own bedroom. (Architectural Digest) Upton refers to bold floral wallpaper as the “star” of the family’s kitchen, which is glamorously decorated with green cabinetry and a breakfast nook they consider the “heart of the home.”
When designing the primary bedroom, Upton wanted to challenge the belief that fun sleeping quarters are only for kids. The space is anchored around a custom-designed pink velour bed, and features bright blue walls and a low-profile lounge area that intentionally sits below the line of sight for the impressive skyline views.
Built-in shelving was added to give the new-build home more character, and window fixtures were intentionally chosen to create a pitch-black sleeping space.
“Sleep is important,” said Upton. “I never knew about it until I married an athlete, and now I know so much about sleep.”
The couple is proud that their daughter has “so many opinions,” and they let her weigh in on the playful purple aesthetic of her bedroom.
“She had a lot of creative input in her room,” Upton explained, noting that Genevieve selected her own wallpaper and felt strongly about the plush carpet.
