Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks is facing another lengthy recovery after suffering a core muscle injury—but he'll have a comfortable place to recuperate in the form of his $539,000 North Carolina home.
Brooks, 23, was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 23 after aggravating a groin injury during the Panthers' 34-3 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 20.
The running back is expected to undergo surgery to repair a core muscle injury and will be sidelined for at least six weeks, according to NFL Network.
It's another devastating setback for the former University of Texas standout, whose young NFL career has already been interrupted by two ACL tears.
However, Brooks has a spacious home base in Charlotte as he embarks on his latest recovery.

The newly built residence spans 2,826 square feet and sits within an exclusive community near Charlotte's University area.
Brooks' property was still under construction when it hit the market for $539,000 in April 2024. A deal was pending by May, and the sale officially closed on July 11 for the full asking price.
Built in 2024, the two-story residence offers plenty of room for the athlete to relax away from the football field.
Its open-concept main level connects the kitchen and living areas, while the kitchen is outfitted with quartz countertops, a gas range and stainless steel appliances.
A large kitchen island sits at the heart of the space, while a pantry provides additional storage.
The house also features a bedroom on the main level with access to a full bathroom, offering a potentially useful setup for someone recovering from surgery without needing to regularly navigate the home's second floor.
Upstairs, the primary suite comes complete with a spacious bathroom featuring a herringbone-tiled shower, dual vanity, and a large walk-in closet.
Two additional bedrooms are also located on the upper level, along with another full bathroom and the home's laundry room.
Outside, the property includes a backyard patio, while an attached two-car garage provides additional space.
The home sits on a corner lot measuring approximately 0.18 acres. Brooks' purchase came at a pivotal moment in his life.

(Michael Hickey/Getty Images) The Texas native had spent his college career playing for the Longhorns before the Panthers traded up to select him in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, making him the first running back taken that year.
But he arrived in Charlotte already facing a difficult rehabilitation.
Brooks tore the ACL in his right knee during his final season at Texas in November 2023, delaying the start of his professional career.
He finally made his NFL debut in November 2024, only to suffer another tear to the same ACL weeks later during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The second injury ended his rookie campaign and kept him off the field for the entire 2025 season.
After spending much of his first two years in Carolina rehabilitating, Brooks finally entered the 2026 campaign with renewed hope of making an impact for the Panthers.
He participated in his first NFL training camp this summer and returned to regular-season action, appearing in Carolina's first two games.
But Brooks had already been dealing with a groin issue before the season opener.
He was able to play through it until the fourth quarter of Carolina's victory over Atlanta, when he aggravated the injury and was forced to leave the game.
The Panthers officially placed him on injured reserve three days later, guaranteeing that he will miss at least four games, while NFL Network reported that his recovery from surgery is expected to keep him sidelined for at least six weeks.
Brooks has recorded nine carries for 30 rushing yards this season, along with two receptions for 43 yards.
His latest injury is another frustrating interruption for a player who has appeared in just five regular-season games since Carolina drafted him in 2024.
Still, there is optimism that Brooks' season isn't over.
He is expected to return to the field later this year once he has recovered from the procedure—giving the running back another opportunity to complete the comeback he has spent much of his professional career working toward.
