After the "9 To 5" hitmaker passed away at the age of 80 on Aug. 25, following a brief battle with cancer, tributes have poured in from around the world, with celebrities including Taylor Swift, Jane Fonda, and even Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Many hailed her on-stage talents, her generosity of spirit, and her philanthropic work—something that she demonstrated even through her love of property investment when she donated a longtime home to charity in 2023.
Parton's homes also provided her with a much-needed sanctuary, a place where she was able to retreat from the glare of the public spotlight and savor a private life at home with her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025.
Indeed, despite her enormous celebrity profile, the "Jolene" singer still managed to keep her personal life at home largely hidden from the public, particularly when it came to the Brentwood, TN, estate she and Dean shared for years.

It was only revealed after news of her passing was announced that she had been quietly battling cancer, although it is not known what type she had been diagnosed with.
Parton's death was shared in an Instagram post on her personal account, which featured a video filmed by her nephew Bryan Seaver.
"My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis, and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next," he said.
"This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it til now."
He added: "Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy; he farmed the soil, she farmed songs and happiness. Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest."
Seaver went on to praise his aunt as someone who "lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others." He did not share a cause of death.
"A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family," an obituary shared with Realtor.com® reads.

Hours after the news of her death was revealed, the late singer's family shared that she had spent her final days being treated for cancer.
“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand," the statement read.
It continued, "“Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact.
"After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones."
Parton's death marks the end of an extraordinary life and career, one that also saw her build an impressive real estate empire that reflected her Tennessee roots and her superstar status.

Although the property where she was raised is not available for fans to visit, they can gawk at a replica, which the country star recreated at her Dollywood theme park, which is located in Pigeon Forge, TN, and boasts “original treasures” from her early days.
The replica was constructed by Parton's brother, Bobby, and received a thumbs up from the country star's mom.

The secret Idyllwild cabin Parton donated to charity
Parton and Dean, who died in March 2025, owned a mountainside sanctuary for decades before she decided to gift it over to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, which offloaded it in July 2024, according to records.
The same month Dean passed away, the home was put back on the market for $770,000—just one year after it was sold for $585,00 by a charity that the musician donated it to in November 2023.
Just 30 days after being listed, the property was sold for above asking for $800,000.
Before being snapped up, the listing called attention to the singer, describing the home as "Dolly Parton's former Idyllwild retreat—a home as iconic as the legend herself."
"If walls could sing, this charming three-story mountain retreat would be belting out a country classic," the description continues, noting that "nearly everything inside remains just as Dolly left it."
Indeed, the property is filled with many of the personal items and collectibles that sat in the dwelling when Dolly last occupied the home, having used it as an escape for many years—although several modern updates have been made in the eight months since it last changed hands.
The listing noted that the home has been outfitted with a new luxury shingle roof, while an electric vehicle charger was also installed in order to add another layer of convenience, particularly given the home's rather remote location.

Elsewhere in the home, various knickknacks, including framed art, collectible plates, and various pieces of china can be seen adorning wooden shelves that run throughout many of the wood-paneled rooms.
A signed photo of Parton in her youth hangs on one of the walls, while one of the bathrooms has been outfitted with a guitar-shaped toilet seat for an added homage to her musical career.
Multiple fireplaces can be found in the living spaces and in the primary bedroom, adding a cozy feel to the 1,800-square-foot property.
Intriguingly, though the home now—quite literally—screams "Dolly Parton," her ownership of the property remained a closely guarded secret for many years and was only brought to light when it was sold in July 2024.
According to property records, the cabin was originally built in 1996, before being sold for just $126,000 in December 1994, which is when Parton is believed to have purchased it.
Parton's wacky Solvang getaway features its own windmill

Located "in the heart of" the Danish-inspired town of Solvang, the adorable mini compound, which still retains many of the features added by the country music star during her ownership, features three petite properties: a main residence and two rental units.
"This one-of-a-kind property features the country legend's original, authentic 'Wig Room,'" state the listing for the home, which was being sold by its current owner, Chris Lapp.
A plaque stationed at the front of the dwelling proudly signals its impressive heritage as the "former home of Dolly Parton: singer, actress, and American icon," while a stained-glass window above the front door of the property's main residence features the legend's name, along with a butterfly.
However, one of the more eye-catching details at the front of the property has nothing to do with Parton at all, but rather pays tribute to Solvang's longstanding ties to Denmark and Europe: a miniature windmill that has been painted to match the home's distinctive gray, white, and red color palette.
Lapp, who bought the property in 2022 for $1.3 million, explained to SFGate that he'd heard Parton was inspired to purchase the dwelling because it "reminded her of her grandmother's home."
Meanwhile, local resident and business owner Wes Leslie noted that the songstress may well have "hung on to" the dwelling as an "investment property," although he said it has also been rumored that she had family who used the home.
After he bought the home, Lapp spent a great amount of time restoring it to its original glory—and said that he has ensured the tenants who currently live in the rental units have not made any significant changes to its interiors, many of which he believes were curated by Parton herself, including several heart stencils on the walls.
Beyond the special touches that Parton incorporated throughout the home, the property features a number of very unique features across all of its spaces: a three-bedroom, two-bathroom main house, a three-bedroom, two-bathroom rear unit, and a one-bedroom lower unit, all of which offer "private patios and off-street parking."

Their marriage has long been a hot topic as Dolly previously revealed that they have an emotionally "open marriage," and that she had even developed feelings for another man.
