Housing Week Ahead: New Construction Data, Pending Sales, and Cash Buyer Trends

The Realtor.com Economics team is tracking a packed calendar of reports and key economic indicators with housing market data.

Get ready for a busy week in real estate. The Realtor.com® Economics team is tracking a packed calendar of reports and key economic indicators that will shed light on where the housing market is heading next.

Realtor.com proprietary releases kick off on Monday with senior economist Jiayi Xu’s July rental trends report, which weighs the current costs of renting versus buying. On Tuesday, senior economist Hannah Jones brings new insights into cash buyer trends, followed on Wednesday by Jiayi’s housing alignment report comparing the prices of popular online listings to available inventory.

Finally, on Thursday, senior economist Anthony Smith digs into two storied beach towns in our coastal Luxury Market Showdown, while Jiayi shares our latest Weekly Housing Data.

On the broader economic front, Tuesday is the key day to watch. The U.S. Census Bureau will release New Residential Construction data, where we're hoping to see smoother multifamily trends and single-family permits finally flipping to growth. Also on Tuesday, expect some softness in Pending Home Sales data from the National Association of Realtors®, reflecting mortgage rates climbing throughout July.

Finally, Thursday brings Freddie Mac’s weekly mortgage rate update. Following recent rate bumps, we anticipate baseline stability this week—though geopolitics remains a wild card for shoppers to watch.
